Enameling Information

Enamelists are a rare breed. Enameling combines both Art and Craft to successfully kiln fire glass powders over metal (usually copper). After executing a design process, cutting and shaping the metal, executing the design in glass powders (which do NOT look like the final product) on the metal, then kiln firing the piece (at 1200 - 1700 degrees), maybe...just...maybe the product that emerges from the fire is what was intended in the first place.

In other words, vitreous enameling is a "slow" art where chance plays as much of a role as control of technique and the Enamelist is the shepherd of chance... to create Art.
