A relocation is planned to take the trail off the gravel road. The new route travels due north about 400 yards east of Atkins Reservoir in thick woods. The relocation is shown on the 9th edition M-M Trail Guide. The relo should be cut and blazed by June,1999. A footbridge is scheduled for construction in June/July,99 across Roaring Brook in the newly created 56 acre Roaring Brook Conservation area in Leverett. The new bridge is only 200 yards walk from the paved Leverett/Shutesbury Road. There will be a minor relocation of the trail to put it inside the conservation area on safer footing.

The new Walter Banfield Memorial Bridge was built during the week of 21-25 June,99 by an Americorps trail crew over Roaring Brook in Leverett. The trail was officially relocated as well thru the new Roaring Brook Conservation Area.
