STAFF DEVELOPMENT CITIZENSHIP WORKSHOP
This one-day workshop focuses on "real world" scenarios and
how to teach just the essentials of what students need to know, so teachers
can learn to use their time more effectively and to keep students motivated.
The one-day EL/Civics
staff development workshop (3-6 hours) covers:
Benefits of citizenship & the naturalization process
legal qualifications for citizenship, steps for applying, exceptions/waivers
Detailed information on what students need to know and to be able
to do to pass the test and successfully answer interview questions
Strategies for preparing students for the test/interview
Classroom and independent study materials for citizenship preparation
Demonstrations of classroom activities for teaching civics, literacy
and interview skills at basic skill levels and above
Additional topics such as civic participation, integration of civics
content with ESL objectives or other related themes (upon request)
Past participants say that it is particularly effective for
developing strategies for borderline, "at risk" students with
little formal education or low English language levels.
As an educator and trainer with 20 years of classroom experience and
author of nationally recognized citizenship publications, I am able
to offer a wealth of practical examples and classroom tested materials
and resources to share with workshop participants.
Workshop fee:
$1,000 plus expenses for travel and reproduction of handouts
