	to Thomas.  There is no evidence to support this claim.

 1.  (possibly) MARY STOUGHTON

     She had no birth or baptismal record and was born about 1586 in England.
     In 1605 in Great Coggeshall, Essex, England, she married JOHN (MANSFIELD or
     MAXFIELD).  In 1591 the will of Thomas Stoughton of New Canterbury, Kent,
     England, brother of Francis Stoughton, mentioned the two unnamed daughters
     of Thomas, the minister.  Mary is a likely candidate for one of the
     daughters as she married in the parish where Thomas, "the minister," was
     located at that time.


 2.  THOMAS STOUGHTON

     He was born 9 July 1588 in Naughton, Suffolk, England.  He died young,
     probably in Naughton.


 3.  ELIZABETH STOUGHTON

     She had no birth or baptismal record and was born about 1590.  In 1613 in
     Malden Mary, England, she married JOHN (or THOMAS) SCUDDER, who had no birth
     or baptismal record and was born about 1587 in Suffolk Co., England, a son
     of Henry Scudder and Elizabeth (__).  John died in 1658 in Salem, Essex
     Co., MA.  In 1591 the will of Thomas Stoughton of New Canterbury, Kent,
     England, brother of Francis Stoughton, mentioned the two unnamed daughters
     of Thomas, the minister.  Elizabeth is a likely candidate for one of the
     daughters because a John Scudder, either the John listed above, or a son,
     was mentioned in her supposed sister Judith's will.

     1.  JOHN SCUDDER, was born in 1619 in Groton, England.  In 1642 in Newtown,
	 Long Island, NY, he married MARY KING, who was born about 1623 in
	 England, a daughter of William King and Dorothy Haynes.  John died in
	 1689.

     2.  ELIZABETH SCUDDER, was baptised 31 July 1625 in Strod, Kent, England.
	 On 28 November 1644 in Barnstable, Barnstable Co., MA, she married as
	 his first wife SAMUEL LATHROP, who was born in 1623 in Egerton, Kent,
	 England, a son of the Rev. John Lathrop and Hanna Howse.  Elizabeth
	 died prior to 1690, in New London, CT.  On 5 June 1690 Samuel married
	 as his second wife Sarah Baldwin, and in 1682 in Eastham, Barnstable
	 Co., MA, he married as his third wife Abigail Doane.  Samuel died 29
	 February 1700 in Norwich, New London Co., CT.


 4.  ANNE STOUGHTON

     She was baptised 10 November 1591 in Naughton, Suffolk, England.  She was
     buried 17 December 1591 in Naughton.


 5.  JOHN STOUGHTON

     He had no birth or baptismal record and was probably born in Naughton,
     Suffolk, England.  After 1624 he married as his first wife and as her
     second husband MARY MACHELL, the widow of the Rev. Ralph Cudworth, rector
     of Aller, Somerset, England, who had no birth or baptismal record, a
     daughter of John Machell of Tangley in Surrey, England, and Jane Woodroofe.
     Mary was a nurse of Henry, Prince of Wales, and died about 1634.  About
     1635 he married as his second wife and as her second husband JANE BROWN,
     the widow of the Rev. Walter Newborough, rector of Simondsbury, Dorset,
     England, who had no birth or baptismal record,a daughter of John Brown of
     Frampton in Dorsetshire.  John died 4 May 1639 in St. Mary Aldermanbury,
     London, England, and was buried there 9 May 1639.  In 1659 Jane married as
     her third husband Thomas Burwell, M.D., of London, England.

     1.  (__) STOUGHTON, a daughter, had no birth or baptismal record.

     2.  MARY STOUGHTON, had no birth or baptismal record.  She was buried in
	 1640 in Frampton, Dorsetshire, England.


 6.  THOMAS STOUGHTON

     He was baptised 23 January 1592/93 in Naughton, Suffolk, England.  On 5 May
     1612 in Great Totham, Essex, England, he married as his first wife
     ELIZABETH (TOMPSON or MONTPESON).  She was buried 29 December 1627 in
     Aller, Somersetshire, England.  About 1634/35 he married as his second wife
     and as her second husband MARGARET BARRETT, the widow of SimonHuntington,
     who was born 29 September 1595 in Norwich, Norfolk, England, a daughter of
     Christopher Barrett and Elizabeth Clarke.  Thomas died 25 March 1661 in
     Windsor, Hartford Co., CT.  Margaret died after 14 March 1665.

     1.  ELIZABETH STOUGHTON, was baptised 28 February 1612/13 in Great
	 Coggeshall, Essex, England.  She died young.

     2.  ELIZABETH STOUGHTON, was baptised 20 March 1613/14 in Great Coggeshall,
	 Essex, England.  She was buried 15 July 1619.

     3.  ANNA STOUGHTON, was baptised 29 October 1615 in Great Coggeshall,
	 Essex, England.  No further record.

     4.  SARA STOUGHTON, was baptised 10 January 1618/19 in Great Coggeshall,
	 Essex, England.  She died 1652 in Windsor, CT.

     5.  CATHERINE STOUGHTON, was baptised 12 May 1622 in Great Coggeshall,
	 Essex, England.  She married as her first husband (__) BOLTWOOD.  On 18
	 January 1649/50 in Hartford, Hartford Co., CT, she married as her
	 second husband and as his second wife JOHN WILCOX Jr., the widower of
	 Sarah Wadsworth, who was born about 1620 in England, a son of John
	 Wilcox and Mary (__).  Catherine died about 1660.  John married as his
	 third wife Mary Lane and as his fourth wife Esther Cornwall.  John died
	 24 May 1676 in Middletown, Middlesex Co., CT.

     6.  THOMAS STOUGHTON, was baptised 21 August 1625 in Aller, Somersetshire,
	 England.  He married as his first wife MARY ELLSWORTH.  On 30 November
	 1655 in Windsor, Hartford Co. CT, he married as his second wife MARY
	 WADSWORTH, who was born before 1632 in England, a daughter of William
	 Wadsworth and Sarah Talcott.  Mary died in 1707 in Windsor.  Thomas
	 died 15 September 1684 in Windsor.


 7.  JUDITH STOUGHTON

     She married JOHN DENMAN.


 8.  ISRAEL STOUGHTON

     He was baptised 18 February 1602/03 in Great Coggeshall, Essex, England.
     On 27 March 1627 in Rotherhite, Surrey, England, he married ELIZABETH
     KNIGHT.  Israel died in 1644.  Elizabeth died 6 August 1681 in Dorchester,
     MA.

     1.  ISRAEL STOUGHTON, had no birth or baptismal record and was born about
	 1628.  He drowned spring 1647 (" 'Mrs. Stoughton's eldest son' cast
	 away with others from a small vessell.")

     2.  (possibly SUSANNA) STOUGHTON, had no birth or baptismal record and was
	 born about 1630.  By 1650 she married GEORGE STARKEY.

     3.  WILLIAM STOUGHTON, had no birth or baptismal record and was born about
	 1632.  He was one of the judges who presided over the Salem witchcraft
	 trials.  He died unmarried 7 July 1701.

     4.  HANNAH STOUGHTON, had no birth or baptismal record and was born about
	 1637.  On 9 December 1653 in Dorchester, MA, she married JAMES MINOT,
	 who was a son of George Minot.  Hannah died 27 March 1670, aged 43
	 years.

     5.  JOHN STOUGHTON, was baptised 10 March 1638/39 in Dorchester, MA.  He
	 died prior to 16 May 1665 in Barbadoes on which date his brother
	 William described himself as "son and only heir, of the late Israell
	 Stoughton."

     6.  REBECCA STOUGHTON, was baptised 29 August 1641 in Dorchester, MA.  On
	 On 25 August 1664 in Dorchester she married WILLIAM TAILER.

     7.  THOMAS STOUGHTON, was baptised 30 July 1664 (or soon after) in
	 Dorchester, Suffolk Co., MA.  No further record.
