NOTES:  Jan was first mentioned in the records about 1644, and in 1646 was
	referred to as the former servent of Adriaen van der Donck.  On 11 June
	1646 he was engaged by Pieter Hartgers as farmer on de Vlackle, in place
	of Jan Barentsz Wemp, at yearly wages of f250, cloth for a suit, one
	pair of shoes, and two shirts.  Director van Slichtenhorst ended his
	contract on 25 March 1649. In 1648 he had a house built by Thomas
	Chambers and from 1653 to 1658 he,  Pieter Hartgers, and Volkert Jansz
	appear as leasers on the farm on Papecanne Island, formerly occupied by
	Juriaen Bestval.  He bought the farm jointly with Volkert Jansz in 1658
	and continued to pay thithes until 1684 after which date till 1688
	tithes were paid by his widow.  With Volkert Jansz he obtained a patent
	for land at Shodac in 1663.  He was magistrate in 1654, 55, 57, 58, 62,
	63, 69, 75, 78.  He was also chosen to be a part of the group that had
	the honor of carrying the corpse of Jeremias Van Renssalaer at his
	funeral on 17 October 1674.  Jan's will was dated 21 Oct. 1679, and in
	it he referred to himself as "van Oostenvelt" which was a village in the
	former duch of Schleswig, a few miles east of Husem in the immediate
	vicinity of Wittbek.  Witnesses to his will were Volkert Jansz Douw and
	Jan Andriesen.

		the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany (wit.:  father and carried
		by Agnietje Phlipsz), a dau. of Jan Brinck and Commertje Conyn.
		On 9 Jan. 1726 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany he mar. as
		his second wife MARIA WILLIAMS, who was prob. bap. 16 Sept. 1692
		at the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany (wit.:  Frans Winne and
		Antje Gansevoort), a dau. of Thomas Williams and Agnietje
		Bronck.

	    4.  HILLETJE WITBECK, was bap. 30 June 1689.  Wit.:  father, Jan
		Andriesz, Wouter Van den Uythoff, by Aaltje Jansz.

	    5.  ANDRIES WITBECK, was bap. 1 Jan. 1692.  Wit.:  Jonas Folkersz
		and Tryntje Rutger.  About 1722 he mar. ENGELTJE SLINGERLAND,
		who was bap. 10 July 1698 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
		Albany (wit.:  Johannes Appell and Annetje Appell), a dau. of
		Albert Slingerland and Hester Bekkers.

	    6.  GEERTRUY WITBECK, was bap. 26 Dec. 1698.  Wit.:  Andries Douw
		and Caatje Melchertsz.

	    7.  DORETHE WITBECK, was bap. 1 Jan. 1698.  Wit.:  Hendrik Douwe and
		Elsje Douwe.  On 26 Feb. 1728 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
		Albany she mar. NICOLAAS VAN SCHAICK, who was bap. 6 July 1701
		at the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany (wit.:  Cornelis Van
		Schayk and Jannetje Van Schayk), a son of Dominicus Van Schaick
		and Rebecca Groesbeck.  Nicolaas was buried 15 Sept. 1750 and
		Dorothee was buried 24 June 1740.

	    8.  JONAS WITBECK, was bap. 10 Nov. 1700.  Wit.:  Henrik Rensselaar
		and Neeltje, wife of Nikes Douw.  On 27 Dec. 1728 at the
		Reformed Dutch Church of Albany he mar. DOROTHEA DOUW, who was
		poss. bap. 23 Mar. 1701 at the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany
		(wit.:  Reynier Meyndertse and Saartje Bratt), a dau. of
		Hendrick Douw and Neeltie Myndertse.

	    An Emmetje, baptised 11 May 1690 at the Reformed Dutch Church of
	    Albany, is sometimes assigned to this couple.  She is more likely
	    the daughter of Lucas Janse Van Salsbergen and Marrietje Evertse
	    (the parents of Lucas were Jan Hendrickse Van Salsbergen and Emmeke
	    Luycasse).

	    3.  ABRAHAM WITBECK, was bap. 29 Aug. 1703.  Wit.:  Ruth and Weyntje
		Van Deuse.  He mar. ANNA VAN DEUSEN, who was bap. 16 Mar. 1709
		at the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany (wit.:  Johannes and
		Maria Mingaal), a dau. of Harpert Van Deusen and Maritje
		Gerritse.  On 28 Apr. 1755 Abraham was buried in Papsknee.

		MAGTEL WYNGAART, who was bap. 28 Jan. 1708 (as MACHTELT) at the
		Reformed Dutch Church of Albany (wit:  Adriaan and Caatje
		Quakkenbosch), a dau. of Lucas Wyngaart and Maria Quackenbos.
		Magtel was bur. on 9 Sept. 1746.  In 1751 he mar. as his second
