NOTES:  About 1623 Judith married as her second husband WILLIAM SMEAD, who had
	no birth or baptismal record and was born about 1600 in England (in or
	near Devonshire).  William died about 1624 in Essex, England.

	Judith sailed with her 3 children from Gravesend, England, 3 September
	1635, with John Flower Captain in the ship "Dorset", first to Barbadoes,
	and then to New England.  There she settled in Salem, Co., MA, and
	signed the Dorchester Church Covenant in 1636.

 A.  WILLIAM SMEAD

     He had no birth or baptismal record and was born about 1624 in Essex,
     England.  In 1658 he married ELIZABETH LAWRENCE, who was born about
     1637/38 in Hingham, Norfolk, England, a daughter of Thomas Lawrence and
     Elizabeth Bates.  William died in 1703.  Elizabeth, along with some of her
     children, was killed 29 February 1704, by the French and Indians in the
     Deerfield Massacre.

     1.  WILLIAM SMEAD, was born 18 July 1660 in Deerfield, Franklin Co., MA.
	 He was one of the teamsters killed in the Bloody Brook Massacre on 18
	 September 1675.

     2.  ELIZABETH SMEAD, was born 20 May 1662 in Deerfield, Franklin Co., MA.
	 On 23 February 1680 she married SAMUEL JAMES.

     3.  JUDITH SMEAD, was born 18 February 1664/65 in Northampton, Hampshire
	 Co., MA.  On 30 April 1689 in Deerfield, Franklin Co., MA she married
	 ELIEZER HAWKS, who was born 20 December 1655 in Windsor, CT, a son of
	 John Hawks and Elizabeth Browne.  Eliezer came to Deerfield with the
	 earliest settlers, was constantly in town office, and was also a
	 deacon.  Eliezer died 27 March 1727 and Judith died 27 January 1719,
	 both in Deerfield and both were buried in the Old Burying Ground there.

     4.  MEHITABLE SMEAD, was born 2 June 1667 in Northampton, Hampshire Co.,
	 MA.  She married as her first husband JEREMIAH HULL, who was a son of
	 Jeremiah Hull and Hannah Baldwin.  On 27 June 1692 in Deerfield, MA,
	 she married as her second husband and as his second wife GODFREY NIMS,
	 the widower of Mary Margaret Miller, who was born in 1648 in Nimes,
	 France.  Mehitable died on a forced march to Quebec, Canada in February
	 1704, after being carried off by the French and Indians during their
	 attack of Deerfield.  Godfrey died prior to April 1705 in Deerfield.

     5.  SAMUEL SMEAD, was born 27 May 1669 in Northampton, Hampshire Co., MA.
	 He married as his first wife MARY PRICE, who was a daughter of Robert
	 Price.  Mary and her two children smothered to death when their family
	 home burned down during an attack by the French and Indians.  Prior to
	 1708 he married as his second wife MARY WELD.  Samuel died 1 January
	 1730/31 in Wapping, MA.

     6.  JOHN SMEAD, was born 27 August 1673 in Deerfield, Franklin Co., MA.  On
	 22 November 1699 he married as his first wife ANNA WELD.  On 31
	 December 1714 he married as his second wife ABIGAIL BROWN.  John died
	 30 April 1720.

     7.  EBENEZER SMEAD, was born 9 May 1675 in Deerfield, Franklin Co., MA.
	 About 1694 in Deerfield, Franklin Co., MA, he married ESTHER CATLIN,
	 who had no birth or baptismal record and was born about 1675, a
	 daughter of John Catlin, Jr., and Mary Baldwin.  Ebenezer was a
	 constable, selectman, and moderator at town meetings.  He  died 19 July
	 1753 in Deerfield.

     8.  THANKFUL SMEAD, was born 13 May 1677 in Deerfield, Franklin Co., MA.
	 About 1695 in Deerfield she married JOHN HAWKS, who was had no birth or
	 baptismal record and was born about 1673, a son of John Hawks and
	 Martha Baldwin.  Both Thankful and John were killed by Indians 29
	 February 1704 in Deerfield.

     9.  WAITSTILL SMEAD, was born 5 March 1678/79.  On 5 January 1698/99 in
	 Deerfield, Franklin Co., MA, she married EBENEZAR WARNER.  Waitstill
	 was killed by Indians in 1704.

 2.  MARY DENMAN

     She was born 16 December 1621 in England.  Prior to 1639 she married
     CLEMENT MAXFIELD, who was born about 1620 in England.  On 18 December 1655,
     Clement Maxfield of Taunton, MA, was granted a "percel of land for the
     house of his division, lying between the lands of Nicholas White and the
     greate lots which was formerly granted to John Gallop and the said
     Clement."  In 1664 he was made a constable.  He, along with his son,
     Samuel, were mentioned in the will of Christopher Gibson, of Boston, MA,
     undated but after 1672.  Clement served in King Philip's War in June 1676
     in the Medfield Garrison.  Mary died 31 May 1707.  Clement died 3 February
     1691/92 in Dorchester, MA.

     1.  SAMUEL MAXFIELD, had no birth or baptismal record and was born about
	 1648 in Tauton, MA.  About 1669 he married as his first wife MARY
	 DAVENPORT, who was baptised 26 May 1649 in Dorchester, MA, a daughter
	 of Thomas Davenport and Mary (Forth?).  She died 21 August 1691.  He
	 married as his second wife CHRISTIAN POTTER.  Samuel was mentioned
	 along with his father in the will of Christopher Gibson, of Boston, MA,
	 undated but after 1672.  He appeared on the Bristol Tax List of 20
	 September 1695 for arms ammunition for the town, stock for drums and
	 collors, and mending of the meeting house and glass windows.  He
	 himself was taxed 2 sh.; his house, 6sh; and his farm, 13 sh.

	 1.  JOHN MAXFIELD, was born 13 June 1671.

	 2.  MARY MAXFIELD, was bron 27 September 1673.

	 3.  EBENEZER MAXFIELD, was born 20 November 1675.

	 4.  MEHITABLE MAXFIELD, was born 18 September 1677.

	 5.  SARAH MAXFIELD, was born 1 July 1680.  On 22 July 1701 in
	     Dorchester, MA, she married SAMUEL BUTTS, who was born 1 March 1673
	     in Dorchester, MA, a son of Richard Dutts and Deliverance Hoppin.
	     Sarah died 27 August 1727 in Canterbury, Windham Co., CT.

	 6.  SAMUEL MAXFIELD, was born 26 May 1682

	 7.  RICHARD MAXFIELD, was baptised 25 July 1692 at the Dorchester
	     Church.  His mother's name was not listed in the baptismal
	     register.

	 8.  MARGARET MAXFIELD, was born 2 April 1695 and baptised 6 August 1705
	     at the Church of Christ.  On 1 June 1719 in Freetown, MA, she
	     married THOMAS HATHAWAY.  She also had a child out-of-wedlock by
	     TIMOTHY INGRAHAM.

	     1.  TIMOTHY INGRAHAM, was born 1 February 1712.

     2.  (poss.) JOHN MAXFIELD, had no birth or baptismal record and was born
	 about 1650 in Tauton, MA.  On 24 July 1679 he married ELIZABETH HAMONS.
	 John died 10 December 1703.
